==Works at CIG==
He was invited by [[Chris Roberts]] as Story Consultant, to work with [[Dave Haddock]] who was the only writer at that time, and later joined by [[Will Weissbaum]], to craft the story for [[Squadron 42]]. Around 2013 he joined CIG full time as Head of Linear Content.<ref name=":3" />

He produced the motion capture shoot in 2015-2016 at [[The Imaginarium]].<ref name=":3" />

After migrating to New York he was playing bass at the La MaMa Experimental Theater in the band for the La MaMa African American Company. He spent about 15 years in New York playing in various shows including Broadway. He was the musical director of the Jewish Orchestra in the ''Cherry Orchard.''<ref name=":3" />

After reading an article about nuclear terrorism he sent it to a screenwriter friend thinking there was a movie in it. They wrote the movie script together and sold it to Fox. While the movie did not get made, John Schimmel was bitten by the movie bug.<ref name=":0" />

After moving to Los Angeles, he worked at Warner Brothers as a freelance script reader, before being hired in the story department and becoming a development and production executive. He started out helping identify scripts they wanted to acquire and then working to develop those which were optioned. Later, he became a studio presence on some of the films Warner Brothers was making.

He worked at Michael Douglas and Steve Reuther Douglas-Reuther Productions, among others on ''Face Off'' and ''Rainmaker''. He then helped set up Furthur Films with Michael Douglas where he was creative producer. When Steve Reuther started Belair Entertainment John Schimmel went there. He was a bass player in college and joined Elizabeth Swados playing at folk festivals for Pete Seeger Clearwater Festival before playing in New York, where he was going to math graduate school at the Corona Institute in New York University.
