Greetings, traveler, there are millions of sights in the universe. The team at THE OBSERVIST is here to make sure you have the best experience possible.
Idris System. These days, the name incites memories of the controversial Galactic Series finale which saw the Air Hawks claim their first victory, but Idris system has a long and tumultuous history long before Sataball. The system was discovered during Humanity’s rapid expansion of the 26th century, by the exploration vessel, Ika’Roa. Certified by the UPE registry as a Recommended Growth Center in 2533, Idris IV enjoyed a rapid population infusion and was on track to be one of the bright spots in the UPE. When the First Tevarin War broke out, the planet’s role shifted dramatically.
Idris IV was now the front line of Humanity’s first interspecies war.
LOCKE
While the archives will generally spit out the Battle of Idris IV as the defining event of the planet’s history, an equally enduring struggle took place years before that decisive battle.
When the Tevarin invaded the system in 2542, Idris IV suffered a series of orbital bombardments. Though most of the population fled before the Tevarin finally took the planet, a few hundred stayed. One in particular, Rachel Locke, a local with no military training, organized these survivors for increasingly daring strikes to disrupt the Tevarin occupiers. This group, which became known as the Greys, proved to be instrumental in the success of Operation Nemesis by providing groundside intelligence for the attack.
When the war ended and Idris IV became officially recognized, the Governors Council decided to name the planet after that famous freedom fighter.
INTRODUCING TANYS
Located in the Corsti mountains in the north, Tanys started out as a resort town for climbing enthusiasts. When the Tevarin began attacking the planet, it became a destination for refugees fleeing from the larger population centers, and ultimately the base of operations for the Greys.
The only landing zone in Tanys is the aptly named GREY ZONE, the approach will take you through the Cahailia subrange of the Corstis and past Alucard peak. WALTER THEODORE manages the landing zone during the day and is more than happy to fill you in on the local history.
Travelers moving through the system will find some of the familiar franchise stores to fix up and fuel your ship (FUEL PUMP) or find upgrades (HARDPOINT GUYS), but the Governors Council has limited the expansion of Tanys to prevent it from losing its particular identity as a sleepy mountain town before the First Tevarin War.
Should you need any kind of medical assistance, SAINT YOR has consistently received commendations for Patient Satisfaction from a number of independent surveys.
History buffs should be sure to visit the LOST QUAD. A central plaza of the town, this was the site of an open-air market until the invasion. It was here that the Greys were almost extinguished. A raid on what would become the Tevarin planetary defense system went drastically wrong. Rachel Locke’s second-in-command, Alanna Shaw, and a large number of Greys were captured, executed and displayed in the plaza to try and demoralize the remaining Greys from further operations. It did not have the desired effect.
In short, Locke has a vast and colorful history, both inspiring and tragic, making it an important place for any serious traveler to visit.
Of course, reading about the sights and sounds of Tanys is great, but it’s really something you need to observe for yourself.
