Yela (Stanton 2c) is the furthest moon orbiting the gas giant Crusader. It is named after the oldest of the three siblings featured in the 24th-century children's morality tale, A Gift for Baba—its water-ice crust is said to represent Yela's cool and calculating mannerisms. This moon is the only celestial body in the Stanton system featuring an asteroid belt, home to many small locations of interest.

Atmosphere

Yela has an oxygen atmosphere. As of 3.17.2, the atmosphere is breathable, although this cannot be confirmed for earlier patches. Pressure suits can replenish their oxygen supplies by extracting it from the surrounding environment.

Surface outposts

Name Description
Abandoned Outpost An unmarked abandoned mining outpost. Sometimes used as a dead-drop site for delivery missions.
Afterlife Where the dead go to dance.
ArcCorp Mining Area 157 A mining facility owned and operated by ArcCorp.
Aston Ridge Aid Shelter The famous picture of Yela's ring illuminated against the darkened sky was taken here by noted photographer Juliana Aston in 2918. The vista became so connected to her artwork that in 2928 it was officially named 'Aston Ridge' in her honor.[2]
Benson Mining Outpost This mining facility is the registered property of Dino Benson.[3]
Connor's This belongs to Connor! Stay the hell out. Especially you, Mark.
Deakins Research Outpost This research outpost belongs to Rayari Inc.[citation needed]
Jumptown An unmarked drug lab. "Looking to get hopped up?"[3]
Kosso Basin Aid Shelter Mario Kosso was the first head of Crusader's emergency response unit. Established to provide support and rescue services to those who found themselves in need on Crusader's moons, Kosso lead the response to the team's first distress beacon, which came from this basin. It was named in his honor upon his retirement in 2938.[2]
Nakamura Valley Aid Shelter This shelter was erected in part due to the generous contributions of Ethan Halton's friends and families. The large boulders and rocks that dot the Nakamura Valley have made it a popular destination for unregulated open canopy racers. Sadly, in 2917, amateur racer Ethan Halton, unable to handle the track's successive tight turns, died from injuries sustained during a racing crash. To help ensure that other racers would not share Ethan's fate, in 2918, this emergency shelter was erected.[2]
NT-999-XX An unmarked dead-drop site.[citation needed]
NT-999-XXII An underground bunker run by the Nine Tails.
Security Post Opal Security post operated by Crusader Security for local monitoring and storage. Trespassing not allowed.
Security Post Wan Security post operated by Crusader Security for local monitoring and storage. Trespassing not allowed.
Talarine Divide Aid Shelter The shelter that saved Bastien Nemitz. In 2930, Crusader Industries hired the noted adventurer to promote the beauty and diversity of their moons by hiking around each one and providing daily updates. Following successful journeys around Cellin and Yela, Nemitz failed to upload a daily diary from Yela on June 24. A search party was organized but failed to find him. Days later, Nemitz contacted Crusader authorities from this shelter. He'd limped here on a shattered ankle suffering during a terrible fall that also destroyed his mobi. After he was rescued, Nemitz recovered and returned to the Talarine Divide shelter to complete his journey around Yela.[2]
Utopia Perfection achieved.

GrimHEX

GrimHEX-Icon.png
A former housing exchange, this run-down asteroid station has suffered catastrophic decompression throughout much of its interior. The remainder has fallen under the control of Nine Tails outlaws allowing them to expand their operations throughout Stanton. Ship components, weapons, armor, clothing and cryptokeys are all sold here. A remote terminal allows contact with criminal info-agent Ruto.

Comm Array ST2-76

Provides ECN coverage for the majority of the Yela area, but fails to cover the area immediately surrounding GrimHEX.

Bennyhenge

In the umbra on the far side of Yela is a small asteroid with two transmitters on it. Below the transmitter towers is a landing pad with gravity that has a Stonehenge-like formation of Big Benny's machines. One of the machines has evidently fallen over, crushing and killing someone.

History

Discovered by navjumper Toshi Aaron alongside the rest of the Stanton system in 2851, Yela was briefly the sole property of the United Empire of Earth. During this time, the UEE Navy began to construct a base in the skies of Stanton II. It lightly mined the moons for resources, but largely left them alone.

In 2865, driven by a financial crisis, the UEE sold all the planets and moons in the system to various corporations, including Crusader Industries, who purchased the parent planet along with Yela and its sister moons. After refitting the Navy's platforms on the newly-renamed planet Crusader for its own use, the company established multiple mining facilities and security outposts across Yela, Cellin, and Daymar, and offered some of the land for lease.

In spite of the inhospitable environment, some Humans have made Yela their home. Wilma Ivery built the first permanent homestead in 2907,[2] where she lived until her death in 2935 from natural causes. In 2909, the first Human was born on Yela when Albert and Nora Triolo were forced to make an emergency landing to give birth to their daughter, Erma Triolo.[2] Outlaw group Nine Tails began using abandoned Navy facilities as bases in 2946, leading to an increase in patrols from Crusader Security.[4]

Culture

Unregulated ground-vehicle racing is a popular pastime among residents of and visitors to Yela. Lakedra Walsh organized and won the first recorded ground-vehicle race on the moon in 2912. The site of this race was made into a permanent racetrack, and was named Lakedra's Lap in her honor. Many of the racing sites take advantage of Yela's terrain, and include large boulders and rocks. In 2917, amateur racer Ethan Halton died in Nakamura Valley from injuries sustained during a crash while making a tight turn on once such track.[4]

Starfarer wrecks

Two destroyed Starfarers could be found on the direct route from Port Olisar to Yela. There were no bodies among the wreckage. The wrecks were linked to the ICC Assistance (9) mission chain.

Beacons

Numerous beacons dotted the asteroid belt. Some denoted wreckage (with loot), others were Nine Tails lures.

Transmitters

Around Yela there were several tall transmitter towers sticking out of asteroids, with a Big Benny's vending machine strapped to the top. The towers broadcasted the Big Benny's jingle and could be heard from far away. On the back of each machine was a scrawled temperature in degrees Kelvin, each a naturally significant temperature. These acted as a 'hot' or 'cold' clue for pilots to find Bennyhenge.
