Development

2013-11-08 During a promotion for United States Veterans Day, players were able to purchase F7A Military Hornet Upgrade (Mk I), sometimes referred to as CCU, for the F7A Hornet Mk I. The upgrade can be applied to a F7C-M Super Hornet Mk I, which will replace the existing F7C-M Super Hornet Mk I with a F7A Hornet Mk I.[2]

The original upgrade cost was $20 USD, with 50% of proceeds being given to charity. Operation Supply Drop and Honor Flight Network were the recipients of the charity donation.

Trivia

  • Despite popular belief that the F7A Hornet Mk II has replaced the Mk I in game, Mk I ships have been in game in multiple occasions.[3][4]
  • The F7A Hornet was originally featured in the Star Citizen Kickstarter trailer.[5]
  • At first the Hornet was to be a light fighter, but then after designs came back with it being heavily armed and beefy.[6]
  • The original F7A Hornet paid homage to the Hornet from Wikipedia-logo-v2.svg Wing Commander which was a light fighter the player started out in.[6]
