The Scorpius is a two-seat heavy fighter developed by Roberts Space Industries Applied Innovations division. It is designed as the latest advancement in heavy combat, interception, and dogfighting capabilities. Featuring a versatile bi-wing design and an innovative rail-mounted remote turret, the Scorpius provides exceptional fire coverage for both defensive and offensive operations. It stands as the quintessential enforcer, serving as an ideal addition to any combat-ready fleet aiming to instill fear in its adversaries through the delivery of justice.[1][2]

Features

Weapons
With a total of eight Size 3 gun hard-points as well as racks that hold up to sixteen Size 2 missiles, the Scorpius offers a powerful sting against any enemy craft.[1]
Powerful on-rails turret
With 4x Size 3 ballistic cannons, the Scorpius' turret offers unprecedented range, coverage, and firepower. It can be operated by either a dedicated operator who has full control of the turret or it can be slaved by the pilot in a restricted forward only firing mode. It has a dual configuration: defensive and offensive.[2]
Convertible Spaceframe
The Scorpius features two unique wing designs that enhance efficiency, optimize cruising speed, and improve combat capabilities during flight, while also reducing its profile when on the ground.[2]
Equipment Storage
Features two 1,500k µSCU storage units providing enough space for both crew members. Also included is a drop-down weapon holder supporting 2 rifles, 2 pistols, and 2 small gadgets (such as the Multi-Tool or Paramed Medical Device). Both features are accessed externally and located underneath the cockpit.[1]

Lore

The Scorpius was designed by RSI's Applied Innovations division in Kilian and tested by the 999th Test Squadron of the UEE Navy.[2]

Development

2021-04-19 The Scorpius was first spotted in game in Alpha 3.13.1 Public Test Universe (PTU-7421225) build. It was intended to be showcased in the RSI expo in the 2951 Invictus Launch Week event.[3]
2021-05 Its loaner vehicles were the F7C-M Super Hornet and Hurricane.[citation needed]
2022-05-19 It was released in Alpha 3.17.1.[4]

Trivia

  • The ship is named after the ancient constellation "Scorpius", which is located in the southern celestial hemisphere where it sits near the center of the Milky Way. Its representation as a scorpion is related to the Greek legend of the scorpion that stung Orion to death and is said to be why Orion sets as Scorpius rises in the night sky. [5]
