The Sabre is a fighter and the original variant of the Sabre series developed by Aegis Dynamics. This aircraft is designed to function as a space superiority fighter, especially in situations that necessitate a minimized operational presence. As a highly efficient rapid response unit, the Sabre is adept at establishing battlefield dominance in diverse combat scenarios.[1][2]

Features

Weapons
It possesses the ability to exert a significant influence when required, attributed to its four Size 3 gun hardpoints and racks designed to accommodate four Size 3 missiles.[1]
Stealth
The vessel is engineered to serve as a formidable combatant while maintaining a more discreet profile.[2]
Next-generation fighter
The development of the Sabre stemmed from a request for proposals issued by the United Empire of Earth Navy, seeking an advanced fighter aircraft capable of exceeding the speed and maneuverability of the Vanduul STINGER-class heavy fighter.[2]
Equipment Stowage
The Sabre is equipped with an external 250K µSCU storage unit and includes a dedicated gun rack.[1]

Lore

  • Next-Generation Fighter: In 2945-09-09, Aegis Dynamics has designed the Sabre in response to a United Empire of Earth Navy's request for proposal for a next-generation fighter capable of outmatching the Vanduul Stinger-class heavy fighter in speed and turning. While the UEE Navy has not yet accepted the Sabre bid, Aegis has opted to make a run of production prototypes available to licensed civilian operators.[5]

Development

2021-08-06 In August 2021, the Gold Standard Sabre is released to the Persistent Universe in Alpha 3.14.0. That includes many level of detail, decal, geometry, material, and paint changes inside the cockpit and on the exterior of the ship. Noticeably, the update implements the exterior access points to the physicalized components, as well as personal locker, fuel port access, and numerous maintenance panels.[6]

Trivia

  • The name "sabre" refers to a specific kind of backsword characterized by its curved blade, which is linked to the light cavalry of the early modern and Napoleonic eras.[7]
  • "Sabre" is also one of the three disciplines of the sport of Fencing. [8].
